Happy (belated) birthday this week to the guy behind the scenes of The Iowa Baby Lady! I wanted to share a little bit about my hubby, Wes.

While I’m off at births, working overnights, or sleeping at completely unreasonable hours of the day to recover, he’s keeping our family moving. Driving to practices, making meals, handling bedtimes when the boys were little, making sure I have snacks before I run out the door, helping with set up and tear down at vendor events, and generally filling in wherever doula life leaves a gap.

We’re pretty lucky that we both get to do work we love. He’s an amazing chiropractor who genuinely loves caring for babies, families, and athletes. Shameless plug--need a chiropractor who's great with pregnancy, babies, and kids? Schedule with him at Waukee Wellness & Chiropractic!

He’s also a very patient husband who lets his doula wife decorate his chiropractic office classroom space with breasts, pelvises, birth posters, and whatever other birth-related decor I decide is completely appropriate for a professional establishment. Ha!

We take Labor Day a little differently around here. Labor is kind of our thing. 😉

So here are 3 quick tips from our birth doulas…

1. Keep Moving 🚶🏼‍♀️
Change positions and follow what feels good.

2. Relax What You Can 👐🏼
Loose jaw. Drop your shoulders. Open your hands.

3. Don’t Labor Alone 👭
Good support can make all the difference. Make sure your support team is confident in how to support you best. Experience and education matter. This is why we love being doulas!
